What are the strongest sockets?

Six-point sockets are sturdier than 12-point sockets because they have thicker walls. These sockets are best for high-torque applications, but they are also the most commonly used of the two types. Six-point sockets apply force to the flat sides of the fastener, making them less likely to slip off of rounded edges.

Are 6-point sockets better than 12-point?

If your fastener is 12-point, which is somewhat uncommon, then you must use a 12-point tool. For 6-point fasteners, a 6-point tool is your best choice. Matching up the points between the tool and fastener means that you will maximize the surface area of steel in contact, making the tool less likely to slip or fail.

What does spline mean on sockets?

A spline socket is designed to tighten and un-tighten spline fasteners but is also ideal for use on 4-point, 6-point (hex) and 12-point (bi-hex) fasteners, making them a useful socket to use across multiple shaped fasteners.

Do I need both 6 and 12 point sockets?

Is this metrinch set worth it?

This Metrinch set has met about 95% of my household/mechanic needs. Because it works on metric as well as standard sizes, I don’t need to carry around a large set of tools. I always throw this set in my trunk when I go on trips, and is the first set I grab to handle projects in the house or in the garage.

Is this the second 62 piece metrinch set you’ve purchased?

This is actually the second 62-piece set I’ve purchased. I’ve owned this same set for approximately 20+ years and bought a second set to give it as a gift to one of my sons. This Metrinch set has met about 95% of my household/mechanic needs.

Why are the sockets on my ratchet so small?

As soon as you pick it up, the smaller sockets go everywhere because the case is garbage. (No warranty on the case by the way) Also the ratchet itself seems really cheaply made.
