What fluid goes in a T56 transmission?

For the T56 aficionados out there, the fluid requirements for the T56 Magnum are even easier. We suggest that you use Dexron III/ Mercon ONLY, and not to use a synthetic in those transmissions. As with the TKO, we do not advocate the use of any fluid additives.
Can I just refill my transmission fluid?
If the transmission has been drained, you will need 4-12 quarts of fluid to fill it back up. Follow the vehicle service manual for the recommended type and amount of fluid to use. If the fluid is very low when it is checked, then add more fluid and look closely for any leaks.
What type of transmission fluid does Honda use?
Honda ATF-Z1
Always use Honda ATF-Z1 (automatic transmission fluid). If it’s not available, you may use a DEXRON III automatic transmission fluid as a temporary replacement. However, continued use can affect the shift quality. Have the transmission flushed and refilled with Honda ATF-Z1 as soon as it is convenient.

The easiest way to make sure you’re using the right type of ATF is to check the owner’s manual. It’ll tell you exactly which ATF the manufacturer recommended for your car. You may also find a recommendation on the dipstick. Either is a reasonable resource for determining the right type of fluid for your transmission.
What happens if you put wrong transmission fluid?
Using the wrong fluid can cause poor lubrication, overheating, and possibly transmission failure. A mechanic might not be able to reverse the damage, even by flushing the transmission. Mistakenly adding motor oil or brake fluid can also destroy your transmission.
