Can I swap for a bigger council house?
Please be aware, as a council or housing association tenant, you cannot exchange for a house that is bigger than you need. Some councils may allow you one extra bedroom than you need but this is depends on availability and you may be subject to bedroom tax.

Sussex Homemove, which is also known as the Housing Register, is the choice based lettings scheme that Hastings Borough Council uses to advertise social housing properties available in Hastings. The scheme covers all the available housing association properties including sheltered housing.

What can stop a mutual exchange?
The most common reasons for refusing an exchange are:
- Either party has rent arrears.
- The property is substantially larger than reasonably needed.
- Action has been commenced by the landlord due to anti-social behaviour or other breach of tenancy.
