In the canonical ending to the game, Artyom rains missiles down on the monsters, only to realize that they were attempting to make peaceful contact. In the more positive, but non-canonical ending to Metro 2033, Artyom instead destroys the missile system, sparing the Dark Ones from obliteration.

LL is alot easier. Stealth is easier, hell of smoother gunplay (2033 just seems clunky) ammo/money/weapons/filters tend to be more plentiful on hardcore (2033 I found myself trying to run through most areas due to lack of ammo or filters). In general I didn’t really enjoy 2033 like I have LL.

All this confirms is that Artyom is Slavic and has blue or light green eyes. The view of his face is quickly obscured as you see the reflection of the missiles detonating. Given the collection of postcards on his wall, Artyom seems to be a daydreamer.
