Although they use the same ZoomX foam and a carbon plate, the Vaporfly 2 and Alphafly 2 feel very different when running. The Vaporfly has a more aggressive feel, like it’s tipping you forwards, and it’s firmer underfoot as well.
Is the Alphafly better than the Vaporfly?
The Vaporfly Next% 2 is better suited to shorter races because it is lighter and doesn’t have as much cushioning as the Alphafly Next%. The Alphafly Next% is better suited to longer races like the marathon and ultramarathons because of how much extra cushioning and bounce it provides.
Do people train in Vaporfly?
This shoe is meant for marathons but not training for marathons. I would say this shoe can last about 4 to 5 marathons which is ~200-250 miles. This is much lower than other carbon fiber plate shoes and definitely lower than a trainer.

Despite some feelings of instability, the cushioning on this shoe is exceptional. It feels like running on springboard pillows because it is soft yet equally responsive. However, I would not recommend this shoe for everyday training for various reasons that will be mentioned below.
Is Alphafly wider than Vaporfly?
The Alphafly’s height is 35mm in the forefoot and 39mm in the heel whereas the Vaporfly’s height is 32mm and 40mm respectively. Even though it’s not a big variance, I feel higher off the ground in the Alphafly.
How long do next% last?
The heel/Achilles ridges at the inside rear of the shoe will be in the wrong place if you wear anything but the mildest of orthotics. Longevity – I don’t know how long these will last and don’t plan (yet) to run them to the point of uselessness. 100-150 miles should be fine.
Are Vaporflys good on grass?
The traction performed great on all surfaces. One of my runs on grass, it was pouring. I was practicing my cross country course, and surprisingly only fell once in the mud. That’s great for a road marathon shoe in slick conditions.
