What is soft clipper?
Soft clipping is a type of distortion that saturates an audio signal, by rounding off the peaks that push past 0db. This gives your audio a lovely warm, analog sound to it, rather than hard clipping, which can cause harsh, digital distortion.
What is hard clipping?
Hard clipping is a type of distortion effect where the amplitude of a signal is limited to a maximum amplitude. This effect can be created in the analog or hardware world when a transistor is pushed to a maximum amplitude.
Should I use a limiter or a clipper?
A clipper is something you’d commonly use for a distortion effect, for instance, soft clipping is extremely useful on drums. Hard clipping is also great for gritty, electronic sound design. A limiter is something that would be more commonly used in a mastering situation, after all production and mixing is complete.
What is soft clipping mastering?
Soft clipping catches the unwanted hard clipping/digital transients of your track before being put into a limiter. It then rounds them off, so that your limiter hits into the red a lot less.
Are t RackS plugins any good?
T-RackS Classic Equalizer is basically a high quality six-band parametric EQ, that they made to especially shine in a mastering environment but can also be used on individual tracks as either a mono or stereo plugin.
What is EQ matching?
Match EQ allows you to analyze and store the average frequency spectrum of an audio file as a template. You can apply this template to another audio signal so that it matches the spectrum of the original file. This is also known as a fingerprint EQ, where one sonic fingerprint is applied to another signal.
